Ohio House Bill 502 requires that anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 must successfully complete an "approved" boating education course to legally operate a boat, jetski or personal watercraft powered by more than 10 horsepower. Failure to provide proof of completion could result in a $250.00 fine.

Our course fulfills the House Bill 502 requirement and offers:

Weekend courses offered Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Customized classes available upon request

Dedicated and professional OBEC Certified instructors with wide-ranging experience in the boating industry

Small classes customized for participants of all ages and disabilities

Topics that go beyond the state minimum requirements for safety including: considerations before purchasing a new or used boat, advice on equipment purchases, tips on boat maintenance, winterization, as well as items you should always carry on your boat

Courses offered in convenient and safe locations including: Refugee Road YMCA, Westside/Suburban West YMCA, Grove City YMCA, Wagnalls Memorial Library & Paul's Marine

Course materials and lunch provided

After successful completion of the examination, each student will receive their 45-day temporary certificate and within 30 days receive a permanent Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft certificate
